Rock Profile: Blur

Little Britain style.

More than meets the eye, biatches...

Got this from Fuzz. The teaser trailer is truly a teaser. Michael Bay is goddamn stingy when it comes to showing some footage. Looks exciting... Here's the official site.

Here is a link to a fansite. This doode has way too much time on his hands. But if Optimus Prime looks anything like this. Woo hoo!!!

Photos

These were taken by Kah Wye of Lunarin when we recorded The Love Choir at Focal Pro Solutions back in February. Man, I miss recording. So much fun...

Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited

Just got the tribute album, along with Electrico's Hip City (which is really quite good. I'm in my keyboards phase now. So it was good thing that they gave Amanda more ground to play this time round.) and Pet Shop Boys' Fundamental.

Serge Gainsbourg, the sleaze master from France. Used to have quite a few of his songs in mp3s.

The current hottest Indie (Straits Times spelled it with a capital 'I' so they must be right. You Indie, I Indie, everyone also Indie) acts pay tribute to the Man.

Portis-fucken-head contributes a track!!! That entry is worth getting the album!!! It also features Jarvis Cocker (with Kid Loco!!!), Brian Molko ( with Faultline!!!), Placebo (Brian Molko again!), Franz Ferdinand, The Kills, etc.

Check this out. Michael Stipe contributes a track... with James Iha as the producer. Iha plays piano and guitars on the track as well!

Read about it here.

I can't wait!!!

Beck returning

After delivering us the long awaited album Guero which deflated faster than a balloon, one of my favourite acts Beck is returning with a new album (with Nigel Godrich to boot) as reported by NME.

Will it be another stinker?

'God Only Knows'... Hehehe.

Monday nights

Since I’ve started working periodically on Monday nights, I’ve missed out on several episodes of ‘Desperate Housewives’. Not really that keen in the series anymore. Even though I’d think I should be going home early tonight, I doubt I’d be following the series anyway. Unlike ‘Lost’ (Evangeline Lilly rocks! Woo hoo!!!) since it’s repeated on Saturday afternoons. On Saturdays, I’ve instilled a culture in myself not to leave the house before the sky turns dark.

Think I should carry on with the remix of Camra’s ‘White Hearts Lane’. Started programming the beats and all. Hopefully, Randolf can pass us the raw vocal tracks soon. The remix of Lunarin’s ‘Ariel’ is progressing way too slow for my liking. My fellow Lard Brother, Weiyuan’s schedule and mine keeps clashing. And the remix is starting to sound way too much like Kitaro; not a good thing.

Can’t seem to find my DJ Krush Jagu album. Goddamn! My CD inventory system is screwed!

Cute bird...

Movies...

Rented and watched 'Pirates Of The Carribean: Curse Of The Black Pearl', 'Layer Cake' and 'Walk The Line' over the week.

Revisiting 'Pirates' was a good idea. It's still a very entertaining and fun flick to sit through.

'Layer Cake' was beautifully shot and nicely edited but I've the feeling that you've seen all before. Well, the producer of 'Lock, Stock And 2 Smoking Barrels' and 'Snatch' directed the film after all. And it stars Daniel Craig who is the new Bond.

Joaquin Phoenix did an excellent job in his portrayal of Johnny Cash in 'Walk The Line', getting his stage mannerism and lip curl just right. Reese Witherspoon did alright as June Carter but I've always thought she looked weird. It's that forehead, I swear. She looks like the chihuahua she was carrying in 'Legally Blonde'. The story was thin, lacking in emotional resonance.

There're definitely some resemblances I swear...

Was visiting Billy's dad this evening. Saw a copy of 'Shaun Of The Dead'! Woo hoo! Finally, I managed to get a copy! Woo hoo!!! Bring out the popcorn!

Sunshine

Danny Boyle (aka the 'brill fooken genius' who directed 'Trainspotting' back in the days when Ewan McGregor still flashes his dick on celluloid. Yes, those good ol' days, eh mate?) is back with his production team, producer Andrew Macdonald and screenwriter Alex Garland (whose 'The Beach' rocks the bees' knees).

Here's the official site.

They are back...

... in a fully CGI film.

I loved the comics when I was a kid. Considering that looking back at them, they were still highly sophisicated for a spoof of X-Men. I'm not talking about the cartoons or whatever. The comics were much highly brutal with scenes of disbowelment, death, blood and carnage. Y'know, the good stuff. I actually liked the Golden Harvest live-action movies as well. They were surprisingly quite close to the source material, as compared to the cartoons (which well, being Sunday morning cartoons for 6 - 12 year olds; you can't have too much blood).

Not exactly very keen in this anyway.

Sick man recovers...

I almost thought I got dengue fever. When I went to the family doctor, the doctor took a look at me and said, "You've got flu, eh?"

Me: "Yeah, that and fever and my joints are aching."

Doctor: (stuck the ear thermometer into me left ear) "Wow! 39.5 degrees. I didn't expect it to be this high!"

Me: "Me too... Me too..."

And interestingly, I bumped into my friend Ken before I visited the clinic and he said, "Hey, I haven't passed you the invitation to my wedding banquet this Friday."

What a way to get invited to a wedding. So that's where I'd spend tommorrow's night.

Decisions, decisions...

Crazy...

Got the link off Billyboy. My band would have done the same thing if we were not bound by budget constraints (and I do get corporate discounts from No.1 Costume House) and legal ramifications. Sigh...

File Under Easy Listening

Singapore's second most-hated man and my good friend Fuzz and Vijay have remixed Lunarin's 'Ariel' under Phorous. What they did was they took the vocals and wrote a whole new tune beneath it. Interesting. Apparently, it's supposed to sound like some Japanese bands Pizzicato 5, ICE. etc.

Co-incidentally, Weiyuan and I are also remixing 'Ariel' under our new moniker The Lard Brothers. Macam The Chemical Brothers and The Dust Brothers. Did some basic groundwork. Ripped out the entire vocals and programmed a new beat and some basslines. Hopefully, the idea of turning it into a pop lesbian love song will turn out fine. Hehheh.

If we can rush it out in time before Linda Lunarin's birthday, we can even save on a present! Hurhur...

Rock D'Fort

We is playing with our good friends Camra next Friday, 16 June at Fort Canning for Rock D'Fort, part of the Singapore Arts Festival. We take the stage at 10pm.

Yup, we're just one cog in the wheel. But it'd be great to play with a few more of our friends as well like Zero Sequence, Ugly In The Morning, Fatskunks and Dancing Nancies. Eh, it'd better if we could open for Filipino band Bamboo. Amazing live band. Nice bunch of guys as well.

For more information, check out the official website here.
